"It makes good sense to invest in Australia"

IN AUSTRALIA, we are fortunate to live in a racing nation where the sport of horse racing is a huge part of our heritage and culture.

That history is now being added to, with a new wave of international investment keen to take advantage of what has happened – and is happening in Australia.

In some ways, Australia has become the new Kentucky of the breeding world. Many of the world’s leading players are here, with permanent bases on stud farms, or substantial bloodstock portfolios, recognising the Australian-bred product is indeed world class.

In 2008 we saw a changing of the guard with Sheikh Mohammed becoming the single biggest owner of racehorses in Australia as a result of his buyout of Woodlands Stud and Ingham Bloodstock. Darley’s investment in Woodlands is the single biggest horse related investment in the world.

Australia also received a glowing vote of confidence from the Aga Khan, who has sent some of his best bred mares to Australia to be mated with our leading stallions.

Coolmore, Shadai and Shadwell Stud continue to be powerful supporters of Australian racing and breeding, while in recent times, Lanes End, Taylor Made, the Irish National Stud, Vinery Kentucky and Klawervlei Stud South Africa all have interests in the Australian industry.

It makes good sense to invest in Australia.

For those who choose to race here, our ratio of prizemoney to cost is as good as anywhere in the World, with Australia the third leading country on the globe in terms of prizemoney distributed.

We are very proud of what Australian-bred Thoroughbreds have achieved in the past 12 months on the global stage, highlighted by International Group 1 winners Sacred Kingdom (Hong Kong and Singapore) and Scenic Blast (UK).

Australian pedigrees are instantly recognisable and our horses are an international commodity.

With the ongoing success of Australian horses overseas and the wonderful array of both successful colonial and shuttle stallions to either breed to or buy progeny of, we know you will be more than satisfied with what you find waiting for you.

The Australian hospitality is something we pride ourselves on and our charter at Aushorse is to ensure you thoroughly enjoy yourself and like so many of our overseas friends, continue to return each year.

We look forward to welcoming you to Australia in 2010.
