1995 Aushorse was inaugurated under the auspices of Austrade with overseas purchasers experiencing outstanding success with many of their Australian yearling purchases exported to race in countries including South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia, with overseas purchasers experiencing outstanding success. 2001 Aushorse revitalised under the direction of its current board of directors. Aushorse focused on goal-oriented marketing strategy aimed at ensuring Australian thoroughbreds continue to have every opportunity to shine on a world stage. 2007 After six years of negotiations, 2007 was a landmark year with the coming together of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia Limited (TBA) and Aushorse Ltd. The Australian thoroughbred industry was finally represented by one united and powerful body. John Messara was elected the President of the TBA and Aushorse Ltd became a member of the TBA and is treated with the same rights as a State body. John Messara and Ken Barry represent Aushorse on the 14-person TBA board and a new board was formed comprising four Aushorse directors and three TBA directors for “Aushorse Marketing.” The union sees the TBA continue its role relating to the running of affairs of the Australian industry i.e. International Stud Book, Pattern Committee and State issues while Aushorse effectively becomes the marketing arm of an enlarged TBA and will lead the promotion of Australian bred horses and their immense success Internationally. “As a consequence of this agreement, the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia will be able to speak with one voice and our scope for fundraising will be greatly enhanced,” says Aushorse Chairman John Messara. “All this will enable us to develop and execute a strategic plan to take our industry forward, in a timely and professional manner”. 2008 Aushorse becomes Aushorse Marketing Ltd, with Antony Thompson elected to Chairman with a new look board. The international promotion continues, but now with a greater focus on encouraging more domestic ownership of racehorses.
