HELMET FLIES IN GUINEAS PRELUDE

Flashy chestnut Helmet was on his best behaviour in Saturday's Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield and he proved a class above his nine overmatched opponents.

Given a positive ride by Kerrin McEvoy, the Peter Snowden-trained colt cleared away to win by three and a quarter lengths from Secret Hill (Starcraft) with Specter (Nadeem) another three lengths back in third.

"Today is the first time I can say he did everything right," Snowden said.
"He bounced perfect, he travelled good and relaxed well off the hot speed. He quickened into his stride, he's got a magnificent stride."
"To me it's only a touch of what the horse's ability truly is."

Helmet (Exceed And Excel x Accessories (GB) (Singspiel) will press on to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and Snowden has not ruled out a start in the WS Cox Plate.

"He's got to be at least as dominant (in the Guineas) to warrant a Cox Plate start," Snowden said.

Never off the board in 8 starts, the son of Exceed And Excel takes his overall record to 5 wins and 3 thirds for earnings of $895,550.

A homebred for Darley, Helmet is the second stakes winner for the imported Singspiel mare Accessories (GB) also the dam of CS Hayes Stakes.(G3) Bullbars.

The unraced Accessories is the 13th foal of Anna Matrushka a daughter of Mill Reef and the German champion Anna Paola.

Accessories (GB) has a 2yo colt by Commands named Epaulette and a yearling filly by Street Cry (Ire). She was bred back to Street Cry (Ire) last year.
